Life, death and battle scars

St Saviour’s friary was founded by Dominican monks around 1256. But its exact location was never known until 2022, when DAT Archaeological Services carried out a 7 month excavation below what was the old Ocky White department store building in Haverfordwest.
The archaeologists revealed the remains of a well-used cemetery, as well as the first phases of St Saviours Friary, established in the early 13th century.
Some of the bodies discovered bore battle scars, prompting speculation that they were victims of Owain Glyndŵr’s siege of the town in 1405.

The talk will be given by Fran Murphy, head of DAT Archaeological Services.
