From Wexford to St Davids – A talk with music and poetry
In May, Ailsa took part in the Creative Camino – an eight-day journey on foot from Ferns in Wexford to St Davids. She was one of four artists in a group of ten people who made the pilgrimage. The story is told in a documentary film which encourages others to follow in their footsteps.
The walk was part of the Ancient Connections project, which aims to encourage stronger links between the two Celtic regions of County Wexford in Ireland and Pembrokeshire. David Pepper is the Pilgrimage Officer for the Wales side of the project, led by the British Pilgrimage Trust.
Modern pilgrimage, both secular and sacred, is the fastest growing travel segment in Europe, with many travellers now seeking to find deeper meaning in their journeys. Recent research carried out by Interreg Europe has shown that pilgrims can generate 2.3 times the economic impact of conventional tourists, but with a much lower environmental impact.
