Stories you’ve never heard before – and songs like you’ve never heard them!
Russell and The History Boys reveal a hidden history whose teaching is forbidden in many American schools.
The culture wars in America have been very evident in the teaching of American History. The mention of slavery and other issues that might ‘disturb’ some people is forbidden by many states such as Florida, and by many local school boards.
But at a time when understanding America and its history and place in the world has never been more important, it’s important to understand the whole story.
This talk will cover five stories you’ve never heard or have only heard one side of. It’s a look at the American story: rich, diverse, messy, confused, arrogant and self-conscious. In other words, a place full of humans.
Russell Walker is an American by birth, Welshman by choice, Speech Therapist by profession, and historian by love and preference. He has taught history on US Navy vessels, through the Bristol City Council Adult learning program and on-line during COVID. He will be offering face-to-face classes here in the Autumn. This is a shameless advertisement for those classes. Typical American!
AND songs by THE HISTORY BOYS!
